WMW Mat Briefs with Mischa Barnes
Guest: WWR’s #4 Ranked Woman Wrestler in the World- Valora Salinas
Mischa Barnes – Welcome Wrestling Midwest fans to another exciting webisode of ‘Mat Briefs with Mischa’. There was a tremendous response to the first show with our guest Jack Reynolds, and we have an even bigger show planned for you this time.
[Mischa sits up straighter in her chair and grins widely.]
Mischa Barnes - On this show, we have one of the hottest stars in Wrestling Midwest, a star who seems destined to grow bigger and bigger. Everyone please welcome to the show…Valora Salinas !!!
[The camera pans back, pulling to a wide shot showing Valora sitting in the guest chair. She is dressed in her normal attire, that being a Black WMW Valora themed T-Shirt celebrating her as the WMW Hardcore Champion of the year and baggy torn jean shorts which then lead to her feet, on which she is wearing black combat boots. She is once more wearing the face makeup that decorated her face for the tag team match up at GS 99 and leans back in her chair.]
Valora – Yo.
Mischa Barnes – Before we get into the questions Valora, we will start with a series of questions that the WMW Web and Media team came up with, a few by your seemingly favorite interviewer, Jane Coughlin. After that part is completed, we will move into the questions that have been sent into us from the last show as well as those picked up in the poll done at GS 99, any questions before we start?
[Valora ponders for a second, calmly chewing her gum before answering.]
Valora – Nope, and hey Jane gets interviews with me because she asks… Stephen and John seem to be scared of me.. I don’t know why…
[Mischa chuckles softly.]
Mischa Barnes – Jane said you most likely would say something like that. Might have something to do with what you’ve done to Adam and others in the past.
[Mischa sorts through her notes]
Mischa Barnes - Not to long ago you retired the Hardcore title, and almost a week later it was announced that the Shoot title was being re-introduced. How do you feel about that and are you upset that you were kept out of the tournament for the shoot title?
Valora Salinas - Heh, Not really, most of the people in the tournament for the Shoot title were in the Hardcore division… I can gain the Shoot title any time I want, I’m focused on the Ace Superior title right now and am quite happy to have that be the next belt I win.
Mischa Barnes - Originally you were wanting to go after the Great Lakes title, but Sault St. Marie requested you help out the Ace Superior division first. In retrospect, are you glad for that or would you have rather gone straight after the Great Lake’s title.
[Valora smirks a bit and shrugs.]
Valora Salinas - Well, that’s an interesting question… on one hand, there would be a bit more prestige in going after the GLC but I like that Im recognized for my ability to help repair and bring divisions back. I don’t mind being the fixer and carrying things on my back and the Ace Superior Division has given me a chance to really test myself… Father Nathan, Ryven, and even Druscilla when she gets back, all of them are skilled competitors and Ryven and Father Nathan have more then a bit of technical wrestling skill so over all… Im really happy in the ASC division at the moment.
[Mischa nods her head, flowing right into the next question.]
Mischa Barnes - That brings up another question, you’ve been known for your rough and rumble, hardcore style. Are you finding it hard to transition to regular matches…and are you finding aspects of wrestling that you really need to focus on improving?
Valora Salinas - Well, not really. As I’m sure you know, I was an All-American wrestler and softball player at USC, so I have the technical ability, but in this federation, competing against people two or three times my size, I’ve found that I can’t always rely on technical skill. But I’m also a luchadore as well and I’ve found that few people can keep up with my speed and high flying ability.. I mean, I love hardcore matches and miss not competing in them on a regular basis but overall, I think things are going pretty well for me in this new direction…
Mischa Barnes - So you think you have a complete package as you are now..no room for improvement?
[Valora shakes her head no.]
Valora Salinas – There’s always room for improvement. As soon as you’re happy where you are and slow down on the training, you’ve just begun your slide down the ranks… I’m always looking to get better and train constantly to improve.
[Mischa taps the end of her pen against her lips a moment, checking her questions]
Mischa Barnes - You just came off a huge tag team victory at GS 99 and are looking ahead to a shot at the tag team titles soon with Mr Videogame as your partner. Of all the people that you have teamed with, who do you think is the best fit as a partner and who do you think would make a good future partner for you or who would you like to team up with, even just once.
Valora Salinas – Hmmm… interesting question and one with a different answer depending on what you mean by best fit. By wins and losses, it’d have to be Videogame as he and I are undefeated over the course of the MTL 2 tournament. In terms of similar personality and the like… Adam Pyre and I made a damn good fit… Audrie and I might have potential… if we can iron some things out… as for future teaming… heh, I think teaming with Hecate could be very interesting, Kronin would be fun to team with as well… with someone of his size and power… we could do some awesome things.
[Mischa nods, leaning forward a bit, jumping on the next question, pulling it from Valora's answer.]
Mischa Barnes - Hecate was one of the people you faced when you teamed with Audrie, and it seemed a side not seen before started to emerge during that match. Can you give us your thoughts and feelings on that match between You and Audrie vs Hecate and Ryven?
Valora Salinas - I assume you mean me pausing before taking advantage of Hecate’s back area and targeting that. Well I was weighing several factors… I saw how that tag match lined up implications for El Dia…Hecate presented me with a part of her body to focus on and I did. regardless of how I feel about a person, I do what I have to to win. I did the same thing to Adam Pyre. My feelings about him did not stop me from damn near crippling him. Twice. I think neither team really focused like a team. Ryven again passed up a chance to win to get me in the ring with him, only for him to end up the underdog in our ASC title match up as I definitely came out on top against him in our tag team match… Audrie decided she wanted to get the pinfall and snuck in while I was finishing the match off… which brings us back to the whole, it really didn’t count as a tag team match in my eyes… Ryven’s exposing himself and is slipping a bit. He used to be Mr. Mentalist, mr. unphased… now he can’t focus on the task at hand… he better change that trend fast cause I got some surprises waiting for him at El Dia De Los Muertos.
[Mischa leans in slightly, focusing on Valora and her answer, then leans back slightly before asking the next question.]
Mischa Barnes - What was the high point of that match at GS 99 for you personally?
[Valora chews her gum some more, smiling as she recalls her favorite part of the match.]
Valora Salinas - Well, me kicking the shit out of Ryven was very fun, but I’d have to say the highlights of the match for me would be my dive over the ropes, wiping Hecate and Ryven out… but jumping knee and elbow strike to Ryven and Trouble in Paradise to Hecate rank pretty high up there too
Mischa Barnes - Quite a large number of people, yourself included, are assuming that it will be Valora vs Ryven at El Dia, but Father Nathan is still tied points wise with you and it has not been decided which of you is the number one contender. Do you think you might be taking a risk by dismissing Father Nathan like this?
[Valora laughs softly as she leans back in her seat.]
Valora Salinas - Valora grins a bit. “Padre? Yeah, he’s been on a big roll as of late and he’s a hell of a competitor… but he makes the same mistake Sam Hershey did… he relies too much on his God and not enough on himself… til Nathan can believe and trust in himself… I expect he will continue to get to and find a way to lose the big match
[Mischa gives an little nod, pondering Valora's words as she pulls out a fresh set of notes.]
Mischa Barnes - This is the point of the show where we see what the fan’s what to know. The first question tonight comes from Jorge in Cleveland, he says that him and his buddies have noticed you’ve brought out some submission moves in recent matches, that were not normally things you used. Have you been working with anyone specifically to improve your submission game?
Valora Salinas - yes, I’ve been training a lot with Hecate and she’s helped me out a bit on that area.
Mischa Barnes - That certainly confirms a few of the backstage rumors and leads to our next question from Gary in St. Paul, Gary wants to know just what is the relationship between you and Hecate.
Valora Salinas - We’re friends. That’s it. I’ve heard the rumors backstage but there is nothing to them
[Mischa nods but her eyes say she thinks Valora is simplifying things greatly.]
Mischa Barnes - I don’t know if that will make the fans happy or not, but there you go confirmation that nothing more than friendship between them. Now this next question I have a feeling will be a regular fan question, this time it’s Samantha in LA that asks it. Of all the wrestlers, past or present, no matter where they wrestled at…who would you want to wrestle and why
Valora Salinas - Well, here in WMW, Jade and I seem to be being pushed towards a match with each other, both of us have really had stellar careers here so far and fans are gonna wanna know which one of us is better. Now, outside of WMW… I would really love to compete against anyone in the X-Division of TNA… that’s a division I was born to compete in…
Mischa Barnes - Many fans would love to see Valora against some of the x-Division wrestlers, and I’m sure sooner or later WMW will be graced with a Jade vs Valora match. Thank you for being on the show Valora, any final comments?
[Mischa holds out her hand towards Valora, going for the closing hand shake.]
[Valora takes her hand and shakes it, smirking as she ponders her final comments.]
Valora Salinas – Final comments? Yeah, I got one. El Dia… is gonna be a wild show and I plan to walk out of it as the new Ace Superior Champion…
